Turku, Finland

Timeout in Turku, Finland is a new 800 capacity discotheque whose creators set out to provide a large scale discotheque with the latest technology, without having to spend too much of their budget on interior decoration. Lighting designer Jussi Aalto from New Star Studio in Turku used some novel methods to fulfil the high impact/low cost objective. Most impressive of these ideas was the ceiling of the club which completely avoids the traditional lighting rig set-up. Through Didier Lepetz of French lighting exporters Axel, Jussi bought and imported an ex-French Air Force Mirage jet fighter which they then installed doing the equivalent of a victory roll into the club's ceiling. The substantial lighting and sound equipment was then individually sighted around this unusual "centrepiece", Amongst the impressive array of technology used, 12 High End Systems Intellabeam 700HX projectors along with four High End Emulators provide the main lighting, joined by a Spectra Physics 7W Argon laser with a Laser Innovation Mirage twin scanning head. Strobes, floodlights, videowalls and a 10Kw JBL sound system provide the balance of the solution to how to entertain 800 Finns without spending too much money on interior decoration. Apparently New Star Studio's high-tech approach has attracted much interest throughout Finland with many clubs and restaurants approaching them for a similar treatment.
