SkydomeLighting effects in Diva have been included on a simple light rig so as not to take away from the peripheral decorative lighting incorporated by Tibbatts. Products include Clay Paky Miniscan HPEs, Martin Destroyers and SGM strobes complemented in peripheral areas by AVR colour changers and Futurelight projectors. The result is a subtle effect, which creates a particularly effective contrast to Ikon which Richard Worboys describes as: "A light, sound, video and laser extravaganza." "We have created a rig which can’t be seen in the dark," continues Richard. "You only see the fixtures when they are switched on and this means that, depending on the type of music being played or the time of night, using only certain products won’t look like only half the rig is turned on.Turn on all the fixtures and you have serious amount of power for any occasion. "Effects here include MAC 250s, SGM strobes and Galileo IVs, Martin Synchrozaps and TechnoBeams. The rig also has three video screens which envelope the dancefloor and can be used to complement any lighting level. Ikon also features three lasers. These new Pulse-diode lasers have been supplied by Laser Innovations and, although only one colour, provide a beam almost twice as bright as other similar effects. Each laser is independently controlled by the Laser Innovations Mirage controller. Laser effects weren’t just confined to the inside of the club however. Laser Innovations had their touring ‘Laser Bus’ on hand outside the club to provide some spectacular effects, projected across the shell of the Sky Dome - an effective alternative to the Skytracker effects often used at club openings, and one we can see other club operators taking advantage of. Elsewhere light control comes courtesy of ShowCad with two midi keyboards: "By cherry picking the most suitable pieces of equipment and ensuring they are specified and installed in the correct position, we can achieve the maximum effect at optimum value," comments LIS’s Bob Rooke.
