Pilsen

Mirage Club Czech Republic

Pilsen is a name, which is probably familiar to many of our readers, being the origin of the generic "Pilsener Beer". An industrial with around a three quarters of a million inhabitants in the Czech Republic, Pilsen's brewers are still working flat out to satisfy the needs of its thirsty population. But man's needs do not stop at drinking beer, and time is always found for eating. dancing, womanising and playing the odd game of pool. This is exactly the premise that draws people to Mirage, or more precisely this is what draws men to Mirage. Nobody can spend £500,000 on a club (the cost of Mirage), which charges just 50p for a beer and 75p for a spirit to a maximum of 150 customers and expect to make a successful business. However, the owners have another way of coaxing hard cash from the hands of eager customers and that is to offer the most basic of mans needs... sex.

I am sure there are women who go to Mirage merely for an entertaining evening of dancing and conversation, but the majority are undoubtedly attracted by the sexually charged atmosphere in the club. Every hour there is a striptease show by women who have no qualms about encouraging a member of the audience to join in, and on the first floor of the complex things get even more blatant. Here you will find a "Sex Club" and a small number of "hotel rooms" in which you can indulge in many types of relaxation. If all this has not made you realise what kind of place you are in, I suggest you visit the toilets where the gold plated urinals are a complete give-away!

Turning to the actual substance of Mirage, it is plain to see that this is a long term project as only the very best equipment has been specified. As the owners had previously worked with equipment suppliers and installers MAX of Zlin for their restaurant business, they were the obvious choice to design the excellent sound and light system. In a country which saw its anti-communist revolution a mere five years ago, it would perhaps be easy to impress customers with some of the more cheap and cheerful effects, but MAX supplied equipment that would impress the most discerning public. Most impressive is the amazingly powerful 1.6 Watt Laser Innovations Oasis laser that literally rips the tiny club open with multi-coloured laser beams. Similarly high spec are two Clay Paky Golden Scan 3s and four Miniscans that provide the intelligent punch of the lighting along with two 1700W Monsterstrobos, two Clay Paky Piper ICC, four Clay Paky Marte and a single Astroraggi Twin. These and the other lighting units are handled by Pulsar 18x5a Datapaks and a Pulsar Masterpiece 108. In terms of sound all power and processing comes from Citronic equipment, including PPX 900 and 1200 amplifiers, an EQ 260 equaliser and a Remix Teknodek mixing console. A Vestax CD-33 and Sony TC-K 311 tape player complete the audio sources. Loudspeakers are exclusively JBL, featuring four 4612 mid-high cabinets and two 2226 sub woofers to produce a crisp end result. Because of the amount of equipment employed in a relatively small circular space, there are very few dark corners or areas of muffled sound in Mirage.

The light jockey makes excellent use of the technology, and is not afraid to use the White Light laser especially to its full capabilities, which despite a shortage of diffraction mirrors, zaps around the dancefloor creating a mass of staccatto colour. If you can overcome your ideas of what makes a good club DJ and realise that the citizens of Pilsen prefer to have 15 seconds of inane talking between records, then you may begin to appreciate what a good sound system adorns Mirage. The circular nature of the club must be an advantage, but full marks must go to MAX for their sound expertise. Returning back to the main purpose of this club however and we must ask why does Mirage need to go to such lengths to attract its customers when it could simply place its wares on show in a window with a couple of red neon lights. The tact is that Mirage is all about quality. The club is exciting, the food is excellent, the women are beautiful and the atmosphere is refined, which means that the male customers who fly like moths to Mirage each and every night of the week are not only eager, but are happy to part with their money.

Believe it or not the purpose-built Mirage only officially holds 150 customers, paying a mere 50p for a beer. Profits come from other sources...

The full Mirage lightshow was designed and supplied by MAX of Zlin. All equipment is Clay Paky including Golden Scans, Miniscans, Martes and Pipers. Laser Innovations from the UK supplied a 1.6W Oasis laser system.
