MirageNew DelhiMirage, located at the Surya Hotel in New Delhi, opened its doors to the public on New Year's Eve last with a host of equipment to entertain the trendy Delhi club scene. Conceived and installed by Juliana's Leisure Services, Mirage is reputedly the most technically advanced club in India boasting a lighting and sound system valued at over US $200,000 out of a total cost of US $400,000. Installation was handled by Singapore based Total Integrated Design and represents the second discotheque project Juliana's and TID have completed in as many years. The sound system was custom designed and built for the space using JBL components and comprises of: four Juliana's mid-top units in addition to 2 x I 8" radial bass driver cabs beneath dance podiums and two large sub bass units under the main dance podium along the back wall. A punchy custom built infill system ensures there is no escape from the thump produced by the 6kW of power available. Control equipment includes a Rane MP24 mixer whilst sounds are sourced from Denon's DN2500 dual CD player and a pair of Technics SL1210s. Mirage is home to the first moving lighting rig in Delhi, designed by Juliana's technical director James Knowles and custom built by Weldfab UK. Four large petals house a range of conventional effects and 8 TAS Mini Ultra Scan Mkll's, with an additional four being positioned away from the dancefloor to add greater depth to the scheme of things. The centrepiece features two Micromega units using MSD 200 lamps that drop down on an elevator synchronised by a Pulsar Masterpiece 108 controller. Further effects come via a pair of Optikinetics K1's projecting the Mirage logo across the walls, MAD Colour units, super strobes and a JEM Club 20 smoke machine. However, the star in the visual stakes has to be the Laser Innovations Oasis laser system, the first of its kind in India, which provides continuous 360° (X-Y) scanning of images and beam patterns thanks to its NAT Scan effects head. The video system is controlled by a Kaleidolight effects generator relaying images across ten monitors throughout the venue. In addition to the main venue Mirage also offers a lavishly appointed VIP room (which is not as gauche as you might think) and two private rooms, one with karaoke facilities and the other offering a continuous diet of surround-sound movies. Mirage was launched in typical Juliana's style with the team including bartenders and an international array of DJs. Juliana's now operate 4 venues in India, with a fifth planned to open at the Rodisson Hotel, Delhi later this year. The Indian sub-continent as a whole will now be serviced from the company's recently established base in Dubai from where there are a number of new projects are emerging.
